Active Listining
Active listening is a way of listening and responding to another person that improves mutual understanding. Often when people talk to each other, they don't listen attentively. They are often distracted, half listening, half thinking about something else. When people are engaged in a conflict, they are often busy formulating a response to what is being said. They assume that they have heard what their opponent is saying many times before, so rather than paying attention, they focus on how they can respond to win the argument. Active listening is a structured form of listening and responding that focuses the attention on the speaker. The listener must take care to attend to the speaker fully, and then repeats, in the listener's own words, what he or she thinks the speaker has said. The listener does not have to agree with the speaker, they must simply state what they think the speaker said. This enables the speaker to find out whether the listener really understood. If the listener did not, the speaker can explain some more.
An example of active listning is in many sports movies when the athletes would listen to the coaches and learn new plays and stuff like that. They are active listining because they are taking what the coach is saying and respopnding to it by doing what he is talking about. One time that this has actually happened in a movie/TV show was in Blue Maountin State, BMS is a TV show about football. In this one episode alot of the players are goofing around and not taking the coach and what he is saying seriously and they got punished for it. After they got punished and they realised that what they were doing was dis respectful they all grew up and activally listened. This improved their gameplay and they even ended up learning a few life skills from their coach.
An example that has happened recently was in class when the teacher would be talking and trying to give us some valuable information about the topic we are learning and everyone would decide that this information is useless and they would just pretend to listen or just straight up ignore the teacher. NOt only does this mean that you will not recieve all ofthe information that our teacher is trying to teach us but it will also mean that the teacher might feel bad that you guys are not paying attention. Doing this is incredibally disrespectful and it could hurt the teachers feelings. If you were to just pay attention and activly listen and answer all of the teachers questions he would feel much better and you will probobaly learn something and that will hopefully make you a much better person in life.
